Summary:The article presents the main geological and geomorphological traits of the Guanahacabibes peninsula, a carsic prairie developed above Pliocene and quaternary carbonate rocks also considered a Biosphere's Reserve. The most remarkable trait is the predominance of naked and partially covered lapiez fields without surface drainage associated with small silted casimbas, caverns of phreatic origin and dissolution and collapse dolines, with a wide lithological and tectonic control. A very singular, complex and highly vulnerable biotic universe is associated with the rich variety of carsic processes occurring in the peninsula, which has harmonically developed during thousands of years.
